PUBLIC TRANSPORT: City trams can be caught on Glen Huntly Rd — a five-minute walk away. Depending upon the time of day, the journey to the city will take 35-50 minutes. Trams to the Albert Park Grand Prix track take 15-20 minutes.
Elsternwick is on the Sandringham train line, which services many Bayside suburbs. The train trip to the city centre takes about 15 minutes. The trip to the Melbourne Sports & Entertainment precinct, which includes the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and the Rod Laver Arena (Melbourne Tennis Centre), takes around 12 minutes.
Numerous bus services are available from a number of stops located within a few minutes walk.
The Glen Huntly Rd tram also links to the Frankston train line, while all other train/tram lines can be accessed via trains and trams in the City.
The Melbourne Airport Bus service has a scheduled stop in Elsternwick.
RESTAURANTS: Within a 10-minute walk there are over 40 restaurants offering an extensive range of different cuisines including Italian, Japanese, Greek, Thai, Mexican, German, Indian, Middle Eastern, Vietnamese, Modern and contemporary Asian dining.
Further afield, a short trip to St Kilda, Elwood, Brighton or Prahran presents an enormous range of options for eating out.
CAFES: In the immediate surrounds there are any number of cafes for casual dining, snacks and good coffee, or just a quiet drink.
SHOPPING: Elsternwick Shopping Centre is a five-minute walk away and includes a full range of shops and services, including a 24-hour supermarket, liquor store and all major banks.
CINEMA: Elsternwick's Classic Cinema complex offers a choice of five cinemas, and screens a range of current popular and some art-house releases. The Astor, Brighton Bay and Dendy Theatres are a short drive, train or tram trip away.
BEACHES: St Kilda, Elwood and Brighton beaches are each a 5-10 minute drive away.
GOLF: Elsternwick Public Golf Club is a 9 hole public course located nearby on the corner of Nepean Hwy and Glen Huntly Rd. A 9 hole round costs approximately $11. Melbourne's renowned sandbelt courses — including several public courses and driving ranges — are easily accessed by car.
BICYCLES: Three adult sized bicycles are available if you wish to cycle around the area or to see any of the nearby local attractions.
